Stay at home order for stab assault woman
Blairgowrie News ~ Jun 3 2005
A RATTRAY alcoholic who stabbed her partner as he lay in bed has escaped a jail sentence.
Perth Sheriff Court heard that the frenzied assault by inebriated Elaine Macdonald (49) on Allan Simpson could easily have had fatal consequences.
Fiscal depute Anne Hart said that Macdonald entered Mr Simpson’s room after he had gone to bed last December 9 and began to viciously attack him.
“She pulled Mr Simpson’s hair and scratched his scalp and neck, before suddenly and without warning, she attacked him with a large knife, striking him on the thigh,” said Ms Hart.
As the victim tried to evade the assault, the accused bit his left thumb.
Macdonald, of Craighall Place, Rattray, admitted assaulting Mr Simpson, striking him on the leg with a knife, scratching his neck and head and biting him on the finger to his injury, at an address in Hatton Road, Blairgowrie.
“You made a big mistake in using a knife in this incident,” Sheriff Michael Fletcher told the accused.
“This could have resulted in very serious injuries, but fortunately did not.
“Given your lengthy previous record you have put your liberty in serious jeopardy.”
Sheriff Fletcher imposed a six-month restriction of liberty order on Macdonald, who will be required to remain within her home between the hours of 7pm and 7am, except to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
